I was doing a demonstration at the hunter/jumper show at Del Mar the other day with a 1 year old on handling, manners, movement and such. A mounted rider was watching intently away from the audience area and then started riding in the arena near me. When I was away from the spectators, he came up to me and said, “Don’t see that type of work in the English show world. What’s up?” I replied that I was just trying to give any horse or rider any help I could if they were interested in the option. He smiled and said, “I’d really appreciate it if you didn’t. It will take away my competitive advantage if they learn this.” He went on to add that he had recently learned some of this ‘stuff’ and seen such a huge improvement in his horses and his results. Luckily for him, there are few hunter/jumper/dressage people that are interested in this ‘stuff’.
